Signing Ceremony of the consortium formed by Eiffage Génie civil and RMT Industry, to work on the Tema Port Expansion Project

Eiffage Génie civil and RMT Industry –und Elektrotechnik GmbH- signed an agreement on Tuesday October 24 to form a consortium which will work on the Tema Port Expansion Project.

What is this agreement?

The signing ceremony, took place at the port project site office in the presence of M.Christian Combes, director of the African branch of Eiffage Infrastructures, and the ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E François Pujolas. This agreement aims at participating in the conclusion of the first phase of the Tema Port Expansion Project. This specific project includes developing the infrastructure of the port (bus stops, communication…), to provide the necessary power supply (cabling, lighting poles), and to have a role of advice and expertise. This consortium will also be responsible for commissioning the new facilities of the Tema Port.

What does it represent?

From the beginning, France has been committed to the Tema's extension project through the participation of Bolloré in Meridian Port Services, to a total investment of 1,5 billion dollars. "Through the investment of Bolloré Transport and Logistics, we can get a glimpse of the possibilities offered by this successful model of joint venture", indicated the ambassador of France to Ghana, H.E François Pujolas.

Meridian Port Services and Eiffage have signed a 120 M EUR contract,to contribute to the extension of Tema port, designed to leverage Ghana's strategic location in the heart of West Africa and to make it a major trading hub and attract more funding. Moreover, most of this expenditure will be made in Ghana. A 100 M will be dedicated to levelling works while 20 M will serve to build a power plant. This is a new French investment in the port of Tema, which is welcomed by the French ambassador to Ghana: "projects of this nature enhance the attractiveness of Ghana, contributing in particular to make it a platform for developing trade and investment, especially FDIs, in the sub-region". The representative of Eiffage indicated that this project would create between 1000 and 1500 jobs during the contract period. This contract is also a new commitment to the country for Eiffage, which is already involved in the interconnection project between Ghana and Burkina Faso' electric grids." it is a new step forward for France in its partnership with Ghana", added the ambassador of France in Ghana.
