Ecobank (Ecobank.com) employees and management in each of the pan-African bank's 33 affiliate countries have again displayed their social conscience, care and commitment to the local communities in which they operate by giving up their free time for a day to volunteer and fundraise.
Saturday November 17th was the sixth annual Ecobank Day, an internal initiative where Ecobank's employees turn their attentions away from servicing customers' financial needs and towards showing compassion and care for the welfare of their local community. Each year the activities are devoted to a specific theme and this year the focus was on 'Support for Orphanages in Africa.'
Ade Ayeyemi, Group CEO, Ecobank said Ecobank Day demonstrates the strong culture of the bank: "Many of the orphanages in Africa are underfunded and under-resourced and they deserve all the support that they can get so it was an easy decision to make them the beneficiaries of this year's Ecobank Day. I was humbled by the eager willingness to volunteer, the hard work and the much evident compassion of all at Ecobank in helping such a worthy cause and making a real difference."
In Lomé, where Ecobank is headquartered, the bank is supporting a local SOS Children's Villages orphanage, where more than 100 orphans between 8 and 15 years live. Ecobank is investing in a new water hole to ensure potable water is easily available and equipping a digital room with 17 computers, Internet access and a video projector.
Employees in each of Ecobank affiliates across 33 African countries have now given up their free time to volunteer and/or fundraise on six annual Ecobank Days. Since the first Ecobank Day in 2013, Ecobank's staff have supported a variety of causes including improving cancer screening, education, maternal healthcare, safer water supplies and malaria prevention.
